PETERBOROUGH, ON - The 2009-2010 Ontario Hockey League season is over for the Peterborough Petes. Entering their Eastern Conference Quarter-Final as underdogs against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors, the maroon and white could not muster up any offense against the strong Mississauga club. The Majors put the final nail in the Petes' coffin tonight as they closed out a four game sweep with a 3-0 victory at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

The first twenty minutes went without scoring as both teams were unable to beat their respective goaltenders. Jason Missiaen played strong in goal for the Petes as he had all series long and Chris Carrozzi played well when he was tested.

The Majors got on the board midway through the second period when Dustin Ekelman broke through the Petes' defense and snapped a wrist shot top corner past Missiaen. Just 6:50 later, Devante Smith-Pelly captured a lose puck and snapped it through traffic on the power play for the 2-0 lead. With just under a minute remaining and the Petes shorthanded, Austin Watson put a shot off the post which proved costly as the maroon and white were unable to put much more pressure on the Majors and trailed 2-0 after forty minutes.

The Majors played a solid defensive game for the third period just chipping the puck out of their zone to relieve any pressure the Petes may have been building up. With the net empty, Ryan Lopes lifted a puck high in the air that trickled down to the crease and was knocked in by a diving Jamie Wise for the 3-0 final.

The Petes will now look to turn things around for the 2010-2011 campaign with the return of Austin Watson, Matt Puempel, and Ryan Spooner to build around. On behalf of the Petes and Sports in the Borough we would like to wish all the best to Pat Daley, Christopher Breen, and Brett Theberge in their future endeavours.
