PETERBOROUGH, ON - The Peterborough Petes are officially on the brink of elimination. Winner's of four straight games heading into the playoffs, the Petes have not looked like the team of old now trail 3-0 in their best of seven Eastern Conference Quarter Final after dropping a 5-3 decision to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in front of 1,270 fans at the Hershey Centre.
The Petes, as they did in game two, jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Austin Watson redirected a point shot past Majors' Chris Carrozzi. The Majors would reply with two of their own before the end of the period to take the 2-1 lead after twenty minutes of play.
The second period was dominated by the Majors. They jumped out to a 4-1 lead as Devante Smith-Pelly scored his first of the game and Casey Cizikas notched his first of the post-season. However, the maroon and white didn't quit. With just 2:28 remaining in the second frame, Liam Heelis' hard fore check caused a turnover and he centered the puck for Joey West who beat Carrozzi to cut the deficit to just two heading into the third period.
Starting on the power play, the maroon and white brought the game to within one when Christopher Breen's point shot found the back of the net through a screen. However, it wasn't the Petes night as they failed to score with the net empty leading to a Majors empty net tally for the 5-3 final.
Game four is tomorrow night, 7:00 PM at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. |
